Reactions To The Trailer of HBO’s Dating Show ‘FBoy Island’

HBO Max new show, dating show

HBO Max’s summer programming line-up includes a new dating show named ‘FBoy Island’. The trailer of the show came out recently, and fan reactions to it suggest that the show could not be as good as the trailer. The trailer is a show of flesh and muscles centered on a seaside swimming pool, cut in a way that matches the catchy music in it. Stand-up comedian and actor Nikki Glaser hosts the show, which has a feminist mission statement. From Glaser’s articulation, we learn that the show is here because women have long been compelled to endure the manipulative and contemptible behavior of fboys.

Bachelor show Producer Elan Gale created the concept for FBoy Island. Sam Dean, known for the reality show entitled ‘Married at First Sight’, is the FBoy Island show-runner. In the show, Sarah Emig, CJ Franco and Nakia Reene are assigned a task to find love among male contestants. While 12 of those contestants are fboys, the other 12 are described as nice guys. By fboys, the makers of the show are referring to lothsarios, people who actively seek sexual partners while carrying on numerous sexual affairs, and those who exploit others. In short, these are the kinds of people who mothers warn their children about.

The gimmick in this show is that fboys and nice guys resemble each other outwardly. Before its trailer shows a guy who crushes an egg while flexing his biceps, FBoy Island actor Nakia Renee says that those guys resemble angels but are the devil.

The men are aged between 22 and 35 years, and one of these contestants can get $100,000 as a prize. What the women get in return is an opportunity to find true love, a seldom-fair arrangement one might think.

CJ Franco says that one of the male contestants is cute, but it seems to her that he would ruin her life. The contestants are not disguised as pandas, scarecrows and beavers, like in Netflix’s dating show Sexy Beasts.

In a recent press release, HBO Max described the show as a social experiment exploring the old question of whether nice guys finish last or fboys reform. The statement from HBO Max raises a question that some people have asked.

Recent social media reactions to its trailer indicate that the audience is confused regarding its viewing quality. A social media user said that it appears too bad to even stream for the enjoyment she might derive from criticizing it.

A mother addressed Elan Gale when she wrote a congratulatory note to the latter. A dentist asked whether it is porn. On the other hand, another social media user asked whether the letter ‘F’ in the show’s title represents family.

A woman from New York tweeted that she hates herself for the level of excitement she feels about the show. At the same time, a lesbian expressed a willingness to watch the show for science. That user is a self-described proponent of plainly apparent homosexuality, big hair, clogs, striped tights, and platform boots.

Meanwhile, a Monterrey user could not help but ridicule HBO Max for making a show such as this. The Mexican wondered how HBO could make it even as the platform is associated with shows such as The Wire, Deadwood and The Sopranos. For your information, those are three of the best TV shows of all time.

HBO Max will stream the first season of the dating show. The early reactions to it have not been promising, but things might change if the makers come up with better seasons down the road.
